04/16/2006: "Easter Post"

Listening to: David Bowie - Aladdin Sane
Current mood: tired

So, once again I don't really have anything to post about, but it's been way too long since I did and Lynnea said that I should. So now I'm feeling like I'm going to feel guilty if I don't at least type out a few paragraphs before settling into some PoPoLoCrois on the psp. Today was Easter, you probably noticed. In honor of said event we went over to our friends Matt and Mia's house and had dinner (lamb!) with them and Mia's family. That was a pretty good time, especially considering there a was good quantity of wine to ease my anxiety at being around strangers. Not that I was actually that terribly anxious, but still, it helps. Other than that the only thing I've done all day is listen to David Bowie records and study kanji.

In related good news, we found a new Japanese market called Nijiya last friday, so I'm now safe from the stresses brought on by the 99 Ranch. Maybe it's just because we went in the middle of the afternoon on friday, but it was a hundered times calmer that the 99 Ranch. Not to mention cleaner and had a much better selection of japanese snack foods, which is usually at least half of what I'm looking for anyway. They even had the fizzy Ramune hard candies. I love those. Anyway, I really enjoyed the place. Now I just have to figure out how to make Lynnea like unagi (eel for those who don't eat alot of japanese food). Because they sell barbequed unagi fillets and eel sauce... one would just have to throw those on a bowl of rice and maybe toss it in the over for a few minutes and they would have themselves some nice unagi-don for dinner. I'm just saying is all.

Anyway, that's about all I've got. Which is why I haven't been blogging too much lately. I just never feel like I've got enough to put a solid post together on. I suppose I've got to put myself on a schedule again and force myself to write a couple times a week whether I've got anything to say or not (as long as it's not meta-blogging... like this is). Stretch the old writing muscles or something. Maybe that should be my Easter's resolution. Yes sir, that's something I'll have to consider.

We also had lamb tonight. Lamb *saag.* And daal. New Easter tradition worth keeping up, IMO...

What is it about Jesus that makes people want to eat baby animals?

I think the eating of baby animals (just recently born) does sooooo much to reveal Easter to be what it truly is in its origins - a pagan spring equinox fertility festival. I mean, come on? Rabbits *and* eggs? Lambs? All the floral imagery? So easy to synch the Resurrection with the resurgence of life post winter, as with the birth of ol' Jesus and the "birth" of the new year/sun at the winter solstice.

Speaking of eggs! We purchased the most fabulous itty bitty quail eggs at Nijaya. And of course I had to make mini deviled eggs. Probably the cutest things I've seen in a while. Go out and by some quail eggs today!
